Red-Handed

#059

It was so hard to get this little guy to pose long enough for me to paint this picture! Ok, well actually.... I crumpled a lunch bag, then got online and looked up "mouse face" on Google. After wading through dozens of Mickey portraits, I came to this one. He's so cute, and the photo just doesn't do him justice. Thanks to the DPW weekly challenge! I never would have thought to paint this.

I'll try to take another photo when my outdoor lighting is better. Sorry. Wish you could see this little guy up close!

Had the same photo sna-fu with #058, but it's posted here below:

Apple in Glass - I used the same glass lidded bowl for this painting as #057 (below). Wanted to lean the lid on it, but couldn't get is to look right. The apple was really too big for the bowl.

Thanks for stopping by, and hope you're having a great week! BTW! FIRST DAFFODIL showed his face in my yard yesterday! YAY!

Sunshine On A Cloudy Day

#057

Ok. So it's a bad choice of names. At least I know it! I was thinking about these sunny looking lemons popping out on this gray background. This was a really cool painting to do. It was painted on a grayish taupish (I don't think that's a word, but you know what I mean... I hope). I also used a different white. It's called Transparent White (Winsor & Newton). Not sure if I like it or not, but it had an interesting effect on this painting. I didn't intend for it to be so gray, but this white made it possible for the unpainting to show through.

Speaking of sunshine! Supposed to have plenty this weekend! Hope you do too! Gotta say Happy Birthday, Sister!! I love you! :)

Oh yeah! Below is painting #056. I did this one yesterday and posted it on DPW.

Edamame

#051

Sometimes it's really hard not to eat your props. The other day, I was drawing a large image of one piece of popcorn. I had my prop sitting right on the paper so I could really see the details 'up close'. I had more popcorn (for eating) out on a paper towel next to me. I don't know if you've ever drawn popcorn in detail, but it takes some effort and time (for me, anyway). So I was almost finished, I looked up at my piece of carefully positioned popcorn prop, and... it was gone. I had eaten it. One good thing that came from it is that it caused me to pay special attention to not eating my edamame today. (Actually, I had two so that I could put them in the 'empties' cup.)

This painting was done over a purple background, and there is actually quite a bit of purple showing through in this painting. Unfortunately, my photography skills are pathetic. And my editing skills are worse. Guess I just have to keep trying!

Five O'Clock Somewhere II

I was so excited about the results of bowl games yesterday that I couldn't sleep last night! Well, it's true... but it's also an excuse for posting a painting I actually did a couple of years ago.  The other excuse is that I spent all day packing away Christmas decorations, dismantling mantles, and sweeping up pine needles. I hurried with these chores, but somehow the day got away from me and there was no time left for painting.

This painting was painted (roughly) from a friend's photograph taken in a hotel lounge somewhere in Toronto, Canada.  I completed a series of paintings from her "bar top" photos, and from time to time, still paint from these awesome references.  This one is on a wrapped canvas so the painting actually continues around the side for 2".  It measures 18" x 18", and is still one of my favorites.

All these days off for the holidays, and now it's the weekend! Hope yours is great!

Saved Bottle, Cup, & Apple

#019

My husband and I had a wonderful, but quick, trip to Louisiana and Texas to see our families over the weekend. After three days and 32 hours on the road, I've got to admit it feels great to be home. I think half of the "joy" is simply from being out of the truck!

I could barely wait to get painting today, so painted the first 2 items pulled from my prop box.... plus, of course, a beautiful little apple from the frig. The lighting was coming from several directions, with the blue light on the left coming from our large window. The bottle is from the molasses I used in my holiday gingerbread men.
